Bertalan Bicskei

Bertalan Bicskei [ bɛrtɒlɒn bitʃkɛ.i ] ( born September 17, 1944 in Budapest, † July 16, 2011 ) was a Hungarian football player and coach.

Career

Playing career

Bicskei was as a student and young at Ferencvaros Budapest, and later with MOM WAS. In the Hungarian League Goalkeeper of Veszprém, Honvéd and MTK completed at least 240 games. He was twice runner-up, and four times he was in the Hungarian Cup Final without winning the Cup ever. The only goal of his career, he scored a penalty. In goal, the Hungarian national team, he was one time: June 13, 1973, Hungary and Sweden parted in a draw 3:3. For participation in the 1974 World Cup in Germany Hungary would have to win.

Coaching career

After his career, he studied in Budapest and received his diploma as a football coach. In 1986, he completed his education by participating in the football teacher - training course in Cologne. From 1977 on, he trained especially youth teams, from 1982 to 1986 he was head coach of the Hungarian Football Association and responsible for the U16 and U21 national teams. Under his leadership, the Hungarian U18 national team won the 1984 European Championships in Moscow. After his time as head coach turned Bicskei a new challenge as a club coach and led, among other things Honvéd Budapest to the Hungarian championship and the cup final. The highlight of his career came in 1989/90 with his commitment as a Hungarian national coach. Bicskei hovered in the subsequent period between clubs in Korea, Switzerland (FC Luzern ), Hungary, Saudi Arabia, China and Egypt. During his time in Saudi Arabia, he wrote a book on the training of young footballers, preparation of the new generation of soccer players, which appeared in Hungary in 1998. From 2004 to 2005 he coached the Malaysian national football team. In 2006 Bicskei acted as manager of Újpest Budapest. The two parties agreed on 27 June 2006 on a one year contract with an option for further cooperation. This collaboration was disbanded after the first competitive game, the 0-4 defeat in the UEFA Cup first leg against Vaduz, at the request Bicskeis again. In 2007, he became a coach officer / coordinator of the Hungarian national youth teams.

On July 5, 2010 Bicskei signed a four-year contract as coach of the Liberian national team and so was the successor of Antoine Hey, who resigned from the post in March 2009. In March 2011 he returned to Hungary after he was allegedly poisoned. There, a cancer was diagnosed, at which he had suffered for some time and where he died in July 2011. Bicskei left a wife and three grown sons. He spoke fluent German and lived between his commitments abroad in Budapest.
