Berthold of Bavaria ( * 900, † November 23 947) from the House of Luitpoldinger was the younger son of Margrave Luitpold of Bavaria and as the successor of Duke Eberhard 938-947 Duke of Bavaria.

After breaking the contract of 921 by Otto I. and deposition Duke Eberhard in autumn 938, appointed Otto I. Berthold, the younger brother of Duke Arnulf I of Bavaria, Duke of Bavaria. Berthold had to give before the exercise of the important right to appoint the bishop and perhaps also to the administration of the kingdom of good in Bavaria. He did not refuse to allow the policy of Otto, the back the contractual guaranteed special position, the Bavarians had reached under Duke Arnulf. A planned marriage to Otto's sister Gerberga or their daughter Hadwig did not materialize. Berthold instead married the Bavarian nobles Biletrud, founder of the monastery mountains in Neuburg an der Donau. 943 he defeated the Hungarians at Wels and thus resisted the invasions of the Hungarians some time off. The Christianization of Carinthia (now Styria) is to a large extent back to Berthold.

Although Berthold Otto had found a post of his reign, according to Berthold's death 947 not his son, Henry ( III.), invested with the duchy, but Otto's brother, Henry, 937 Judith, the daughter of Duke Arnulf was married.
