Berthold Wolpe

Berthold Wolpe ( born October 29, 1905 in Offenbach am Main, † July 5, 1989 in London ) was a German typographer and teacher.

Life

He was born into a Jewish family. He studied at the School of Applied Arts Offenbach with Rudolf Koch. When his employees he was involved in the famous Germany Map of the island publishing house and worked with to cook ABC Booklet. One of his colleagues in Offenbach's workshop community of Rudolf Koch was Fritz Kredel. Wolpe received his doctorate in 1928 at the School of Applied Arts Offenbach, in 1932 he met Stanley Morison know. In 1935, he was forced to leave Germany, and he emigrated to London, where he worked at the Fanfare Press until 1940. For the publishing house Faber & Faber, he designed over 1500 book covers to 1971.
