The name is based on Old High German - " shiny " and waltan - " exercise ", " prevail ", due.

Dissemination

Berthold was a frequently used first name of the Dukes of Zahringen and is therefore widespread in southern Germany. In the 19th century it was revived by the Knights poetry and romantic literature, nowadays the name is, however, not re-elected so often.
