Bertie County, North Carolina

Bertie County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Windsor, which was named after the House of Windsor.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern North Carolina, is located in the north about 50 miles from Virginia and has an area of 1920 square kilometers, of which 109 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hertford County, Chowan County, Washington County, Martin County, Halifax County and Northampton County.

Bertie County is divided into nine townships: Colerain, Indian Woods, Merry Hill, Mitchell, Roxobel, Snake Bite, Whites, Windsor and Woodville.

History

Bertie County was formed in 1722 from parts of Chowan County. It was named after the former owners of the land, James and Henry Bertie.
