Bertie Peacock

John Robert " Bertie " Peacock ( born September 29, 1928 in Coleraine, † 22 July 2004) was a Northern Irish football player and coach.

Sports career

Peacock began his career at Coleraine FC in his native city, where he was employed as a junior player. After moving to Glentoran FC, ​​he caught the attention of the Scottish club Celtic FC, who signed him in 1949. With his new team, he became the master force on the defensive and was due to his untiring efforts nicknamed "The Ant " ( German: The Ant ). In 1954 he won at the side of Bobby Evans, Willie Fernie and Neil Mochan the Scottish league title, were added to 1961 in his ongoing time for the Glasgow club two Cup and League Cup successes. Then he returned to Northern Ireland to his hometown club Coleraine FC, ​​where he trailed off his career.

1949, Peacock made ​​its debut in the Northern Ireland national team. With the national team, he qualified as group winners ahead of Italy for the World Cup 1958, the first finals appearance in the history of the national team.
