Berto Lardera

Berto Lardera - actually Roberto Lardera ( born December 18, 1911 in La Spezia, Italy, † 1989 in Paris, France) was an Italian- French sculptor.

Berto Lardera was born in 1911 in La Spezia in Italy, the son of a shipyard worker.

He graduated from the classical studies at the University of Florence. The art of sculpture and sculpture he taught himself as an autodidact.

Berto Lardera sculptures are essentially metal sculptures, especially in the late fifties - early sixties were very monumental. In the sculptures Lardera processed the impressions from his childhood, where he was influenced by the impressions of the work in the shipyards.

In 1942 Lardera had his first solo exhibition in Milan.

1947 moved Lardera to Paris, where he lived until his death in 1989 and worked. ( in 1965 he took a French citizen. ) In Paris, he began with exhibitions in the " Galerie Denise René ", later the "Salon de Mai " and the "Salon des Nouvelles Réalités ".

In the years 1948, 1950 and 1952 was Lardera participants of the Venice Biennale, and represented Italy there.

Berto Lardera had also participated in the documenta 1, the documenta II and the documenta III in the years 1955, 1959 and 1964 in Kassel.

Berto was Lardera 1958-1961 Visiting Professor at the College of Fine Arts in Hamburg.

Lardera sculptures are found around the world. His sculptures in Europe, America and Japan show in different dimensions the use of a wide range of various metals. Initially rather flat and two-dimensional, his works were later more diverse, multidimensional and more varied.
