Bertoldo di Giovanni

Bertoldo di Giovanni (* 1435-1440 in Florence; † in December 1491 Poggio a Caiano at the Villa Medici ) was a Florentine sculptor of the Renaissance.

Life

Bertoldo di Giovanni was a pupil of Donatello, worked for a long time in the workshop of his master, and led after his death in 1466 left behind unfinished works from, including the bronze pulpit reliefs from the life of Christ in San Lorenzo in Florence. He later became principal and teachers of the school for painters and sculptors in particular for which the grand -loving Lorenzo de ' Medici had built in his garden. Bertoldo was also overseer of the antiquities there. In this school, learned the most important sculptors of their time, including Michelangelo, Baccio da Montelupo, Rustici and Sansovino.
