Beryozovsky, Sverdlovsk Oblast

Beryozovsky (Russian Берёзовский ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia) with 51 651 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the eastern edge of the Middle Urals, about 15 km northeast of Oblasthauptstadt Yekaterinburg, near the mouth of the eponymous river Beryozovka in the upper reaches of Pyshma, a right tributary of the Tura River in the system of the Ob.

Beryozovsky is the Oblast administratively subordinated directly.

Beryozovsky is on a busy in freight and suburban branch line which opened on this section 1916 railway Yekaterinburg - Artjomowski ( station Jegorschino ) - Tavda - Meschduretschenski ( station Ustje - Acha ). The station of the city is called Beresit (after the local gold-bearing rock).

History

After Jerofei Markow 1745 had discovered a gold deposit was 1752 mining camp at established here Beryozovsky gold mine. 1938, the site of a town.

Culture and sights

In Berjowowski there is museum of the history of gold and platinum production in the Urals.

Economy

Beryozovsky is center of gold mining in the Middle Urals. There is also a mill for special steel alloys, construction and a furniture factory.
