Bespoke

Custom tailor / bespoke tailor ( Germany ) and clothing designer ( Austria ) is a craft apprenticeship as a tailor in the textile sector. In contrast to, for example, to the industrial fashion tailoring tailors make clothes individually "tailored " her.

Vocational

Tailors advise customers and finished garments to as desired. Take measure to the customer, draw the cut and then produce the garment. Depending on customer requirements, they use a variety of fabrics (cotton, silk, woolens, etc.). Some tailors also produce series production ( Assemblies ). Furthermore mend damaged clothes and make changes.

Training

Germany

The training lasts in Germany for three years and takes place in the dual education system in vocational schools and training companies. Alternatively, use school-based programs to choose from. In training the disciplines ladies tailors and men's custom tailors are distinguished. Today, there are two test stages, journeyman and master exam. With the latter it acquires the right to train apprentices.

Previously knew the Lord Tailoring four training levels, in contrast to other craft professions who know three training stages, namely: Apprentice with the conclusion journeyman, journeyman to visit the cutting school with end cutters and cutters to the master craftsman examination and in consequence a master tailor.

In the GDR there was until 1990 the skilled worker training ladies tailors and men's custom tailor. The Professional dressmakers there was in Germany from 1953 to 2004, now both have been merged into the profession of a bespoke tailor.

Austria

In Austria existed until 30 June 2010, two separate apprenticeships with the names ladies tailors and dressmakers Lord. By July 1, 2010 entered a new training regulations in force which also integrates other teaching professions modular. The result is more professional flexibility within the textile industry. According to the Vocational Training Act (BAG ) is called the training clothing design and is a module teaching profession. The training includes an obligatory two-year training in the basic module clothing design and one year of training in one of the following main modules:

  • Women's Clothing (equivalent to custom tailor / in ladies)
  • Men's Clothing ( equivalent to custom tailor / in men)
  • Linen goods production
  • Modist / in and Hutmacher / in
  • Furrier / in and Säckler / in

In another half a year of training apprentices may a second main module or one of the following special modules completed: clothing design, theater, clothing technology. Accordingly, the training lasts three or three and a half years with additional module.

Apprentices lay at the end from the final exam and an additional examination for the special module. For training, there are various master classes. The master's examination facilitates the independent professional practice ( in one of the main modules ), but is not mandatory. Many vocational schools offer very similar courses, which allow access to the industry.
