Bess Meredyth

Bess Meredyth ( born February 12, 1890 in Buffalo, New York, † July 13, 1969 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American screenwriter and film actress. She was one of 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Career

Bess Meredyth started her career as a screenwriter in Hollywood in 1915, then in addition to the profession of Cutter's one of the few domains in which men and women were equally active. In the 1920s, she wrote a number of screenplays for MGM. In the following years they grew next to Frances Marion to one of the highest paid writers in the industry. Some of her best-known film scripts originated from 1934, when she was hired by Darryl F. Zanuck for his newly founded production company 20th Century Pictures. For her work on A shameless woman and Wonder of Women in 1930, she was nominated for an Oscar for best screenplay.

For your marriage to actor Wilfred Lucas (1917-1927) her only child, the future screenwriter John Meredyth Lucas emerged. In his third marriage, she was married from 1929 to 1962 with Michael Curtiz.
