Demographics
History
Little is known about the history of the small town. Supposedly, a Germanic tribe of the migration period has ( the Torrebesses ) founded the place, said to have been plundered by the Saracens in 880 and by the Normans in 732. In the environment of a former castle, now known as the Château de Besse, the place is likely to have developed gradually. Slag finds in the area indicate early metal processing.
