Bessines-sur-Gartempe

Bessines -sur -Gartempe is the main town ( chef -lieu ) of the eponymous canton in France. The community is located 35 km north of Limoges, in the Vallée le la Gartempe, and is a member of the Communauté de communes Porte d' Occitanie's. It is the birthplace of the painter Suzanne Valadon. In the 18th century the population grew from 1500 to 2000. Currently Bessines has 2833 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

The village has a freeway connection to the A20.
