Besso (mountain)

The Besso is a 3'668 m above sea level. M. high mountain in Val d' Anniviers in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. The name Besso means twins in Patois (French dialect) of the Val d' Anniviers and refers to the two peaks of Mt. It overlooks the resort of Zinal is to the north west of the Zinalrothorns.

The first ascent was made probably in 1862 by the two mountain guides JB Epinay and J. Vianin.

The easiest route to the Besso is called " Chemin des Dames " ( Ladies route). The classic route starts from the Cabane du Mounts and via the southwest ridge (PD ). This route was first committed according Collomb 1906 by the British writer and mountaineer Robert Lock Graham Irving.
