Beta Cephei

β Cephei (Beta Cephei ) is a star in the constellation Cepheus. He wears the historical proper names Alfirk (Arabic الفرق, DMG al - Firq ).

Beta Cephei is the prototype of a class pulsationsveränderlicher stars, the so-called beta Cephei stars. Its brightness varies with a period of 0.1904844 days between 3.15 m and 3.21 m. He has a Oberflächtemperatur of about 14,600 Kelvin and thus belongs to the spectral class B2. From these data it could be calculated that Beta Cephei has 5.5 times the diameter of our sun. He is just 700 light- years away from Earth.
