Beta Serpentis

Beta Serpentis ( β Ser) is the name for the fünfthellsten star in the constellation of the Serpent (lat: Serpens ).

In classical Chinese astronomy Beta Serpentis周bears the name, the character that represents the Zhou Dynasty.

Beta Serpentis is a multiple star system consisting of three stars that move around a common center of gravity. The main star has an apparent magnitude of 3.65 m and belongs to the spectral class A3V. The companion stars have magnitudes of 9.9 m and 10.7 m and have angular distances of 31 " and 207 " on.

The Beta Serpentis system is 153 light years from Earth ( Hipparcos database).
