Betacam#Digital Betacam

Digital Betacam ( Digibeta also called ) is the most used storage medium in today's TV technology. As compression is a block-based DCT method used. The compression ratio is about 2:1. On a Digital Betacam cassette four tracks of digital audio and analog CUE track in addition to the image recorded. Timecode can be recorded as LTC and VITC.

Digital Betacam, introduced in 1993, is in some device models backwards compatible with Betacam and Betacam SP, and cheaper than the 1987 D1 system developed by Sony. Digital Betacam has as analog Betacam S- and L- bands, but with 40 and 124 minutes maximum recording time. Digital Betacam is distinguished from a better video quality and higher reliability. In addition, no appreciable copying losses occur at re-recordings by means of digital SDI interfaces. The Digital Betacam format records a DCT - compressed component video signal with a 10-bit YCbCr 4:2:2 sampling in PAL ( 720x576) or NTSC ( 720x486 ). The signal has a bit rate of 90 Mbit / s and four uncompressed audio channels with 48 kHz PCM encoded at a resolution of 20 bits. The four audio channels are also very comfortable with output as PCM stream using the SDI video interfaces and of course also accepted (SDI Audio Embed ). A fifth audio channel for cueing and a linear time code (LTC ) track are also provided on the tape. The video tapes of Digital Betacam are usually kept in blue.

The studio VTR machines of the DVW- 5xx series have the same dimensions as the last generation of their analog predecessors. The connections on the back correspond to the additional digital interfaces essentially those of the previous VTR (eg BVW- 75 SONY ).
