Beth Yaacov Synagogue (Madrid, Spain)

The synagogue in Madrid, capital of Spain, is the first synagogue, which was after the expulsion of the Jews in 1492 (see Alhambra Decree ) built. It is located in Calle Balmes in the district Chamberí.

Due to the immigration of Sephardic Jews from North Africa was created in Madrid a larger Jewish community, which held from 1917 their services in different rooms. The newly constructed building which was inaugurated on 16 December 1968.

On 31 March 1992 was commemorated the expulsion of the Spanish Jews in 1492 in the synagogue with the presence of the Spanish King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia.
