Bethau is a district of the city of Anna castle on the southeastern edge of the county Wittenberg ( Saxony- Anhalt, Germany ).

Geography and transport

Bethau is located about 40 km southeast of Wittenberg and about 20 km north of Torgau in the lowlands on the east bank of the Elbe River west of the Anna Burger Heath. However, this is largely a military training area of the Bundeswehr and therefore restricted. West of the town runs the B 182 and B 187 north to the south Bethau borders on Saxony.

History

Bethau was probably founded in 1159 by Flemish immigrants, these were settled by Archbishop of Magdeburg Wichmann von Seeburg and Albrecht the Bear in this area.
