Beto ( May 3, 1976 in Lisbon; actually Roberto Luís Gaspar de Deus Severo ) is a Portuguese football player.

Career

Association

Beto is from the youth of C.A.C. " Pontinha " until he moved at the age of 14 years the junior of Sporting Lisbon. For the youth teams of Sporting he was five years active before he joined the first team against Sporting. However, before it ran aground on the capital city for the first time, the Sporting managers Beto decided to borrow. After gaining in the 1994/95 season at União Lamas and 1995/96 in SC Campomaiorense match practice, he returned to the 1996/97 season to his hometown club back. There he became the performers and leading players. As team captain, he won the 2000 and 2002 national championship and the Portuguese Super Cup with the Green-Whites. With the Cup success in 2002 his country- house collection of titles was complete.

According to internal problems with the then coach Paulo Bento Beto left Lisbon in January 2006 and signed with Bordeaux. On the last day of the summer transfer window of the same year he was loaned to the Spanish First League promoted Recreativo Huelva. On 3 July 2007, he signed a three -year contract with the Andalusians. After three years in Spain, he returned to Lisbon, and joined Belenenses Lisbon.

National

Beto was a long time defender of the Portuguese national team. Even as a teenager, he was nominated for the junior national teams. In the U-18 Football Championship in 1994 in Spain, he was in the squad of Portugal. The team pushed on to the finals and was able after a 1-1 draw the enemy from Germany beat 4-1 in a penalty shootout.

On September 6, 1997 Beto played his first senior international match in the national team ( 1-1 against Germany ). He participated in the European Football Championship 2000 ( two inserts ) and the Football World Cup 2002 ( three inserts) actively participated and was in the squad for the Euro 2004 football championships in their own country. He played 31 times for the Portuguese national football team and made 2 goals.
