Betsy Markey

Elizabeth Helen " Betsy " Markey (* April 27, 1956 in Cresskill, New Jersey) is an American politician (Democratic Party) from the U.S. state of Colorado. From 2009 to 2011 she was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives and represented the fourth congressional district there from Colorado.

In the elections for Congress 2008 she sat surprisingly strong against the longtime incumbent Marilyn Musgrave from the Republicans by. Markey reached 56.2 percent of the vote, Musgrave came to 43.8 percent.

Before being elected Betsy Markey worked among others on the staff of U.S. Senator Ken Salazar, who later became Secretary of the Interior. She holds a Bachelor 's degree from the University of Florida and graduated as a Master of Public Administration from the American University in Washington.

Markey is married, with her husband Jim has three children.
