Bette Davis Eyes

Bette Davis Eyes is a song by Jackie DeShannon and Donna Weiss, which in 1981 became known in the version of Kim Carnes world. The version of Kim Carnes was published on 27 March 1981 as a single and in over 30 countries including USA, Germany and Switzerland a number -one hit. The piece was also published on Carnes album Mistaken Identity.

Construction and content

Jackie DeShannon and Donna Weiss wrote the play, which is about a woman, her eyes like Bette Davis and the men turned his head, already in 1974. Initially, a demo was recorded which, according to producer Val Garay "like a song by Leon Russell the piano part of the Beer Barrel polka " sounded. In 1975, the song was released on DeShannons album New Arrangement.

During the recordings with Kim Carnes in 1981 was used as a synthesizer Sequential Circuits Bill Cuomo played the Prophet-5. Published recording is a live take, the mixture is the first rough mix. Producer Val Garay said in an interview in 2003 that the energy of this mix was the best. Since no separate tracks existed, no Maxi version of the title was created.

Music Video

In the music video Russell Mulcahy directed. At the beginning of the video Kim Carnes lying in a bed, while you can see a shadow on the wall. Then she sings the song with some accompanying musicians in a dance hall. The costumed crowd dances to it. At the end of the clip Carnes is again in bed.
