Betty Olivero

Betty Olivero ( born May 16, 1954 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli composer.

Olivero studied piano with Ilona Vincze to 1978 -Kraus and composition with Yizhak Sadai and Leon Schidlowsky at the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University, besides they studied composition with André Hajdu and Abel Ehrlich. The Master's degree she obtained at Yale University, where she was a pupil of Jacob Druckman, Bernard Rands and Gilbert Amy. From 1983 to 1986 she studied with Luciano Berio in Italy. The doctoral degree she received in 2002 at Bar- Ilan University with a thesis on the music of Berio's composition and the Hoshanot. Since 2003 she teaches composition at Bar- Ilan University.

Oliverso composed symphonic works, chamber music, vocal works, stage works and film music for the silent film The Golem. In her compositions she verbindete elements of the Sephardic and Arabic music and medieval music with a contemporary musical language. Among other things, she worked with the singer Esti Kenan Ofri - and clarinetist Giora Feidman. Her compositions were, inter alia, from the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra performed, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic. She received the Fromm Award by the Fromm Music Foundation (1986 ), the Koussevitzky Award by the Koussevitzky Music Foundation (2000), the price of the Israeli Prime Minister ( 2001), the Rosenblum Award (Israel, 2003), the Landau Award ( 2004) and the ACUM prize ( 2004).
