Geography

Location and vegetation

Beuron is located in the scenic Upper Danube Valley, approximately 25 kilometers west of the county town Sigmaringen. It is the center of Obere Donau Nature Park. The Danube Gorge at Beuron shows with its deeply cut into the limestone valley of the geological history of the last 160 million years from former Jurassic sea, over the removal of limestones to shift the course of the water from the Rhine to the Danube.

The Beuronese community forest is relatively small with 248 acres. The hardwood component is predominant with 83 percent, the largest share is the book. Other important tree species: ash, maple, oak, hornbeam, elm, linden, wild cherry, white fir, pine and larch. The local forest extends substantially at the two Danube valley slopes, to approximately 30 to 40 percent of the land no trees can be cut down because of the engineering and other financial expense is too high. The entire forest is situated in the conservation area Upper Danube, the habitat proportion is four times higher than the national average. It is the habitat for deer and chamois.

History

The area around Beuron was, as evidenced by numerous finds, already settled in the Mesolithic period. The frühmesolithische Beuronian culture is named after the place. The most important discovery and excavation is the nearby Hunter House cave on Fridinger district, and Probst cave near Beuron. The Old Rock Beuron has another prehistoric find site. Here we found a late Celtic rein ring. From Peter rock finds Urnfield ceramics are known.

Mayor

On 19 June 2011, the police officer Raphael Osmakowski -Miller from Bad Saulgau with 56.49 percent of the vote, with a turnout of 74.39 percent, voted in the first ballot as honorary mayor of Beuron. His inauguration took place on 2 September 2011 inauguration was the 5th September 2011. Benedictine Archabbey of Beuron

Famous Beuron is by the Benedictine Archabbey of Beuron, which represents the center of the Beuronese Congregation. The monastery was founded in 1077 as an Augustinian Canons. Churches and chapels

  • The 1732 to 1738 built monastery church of St. Martin and St. Mary is a baroque sacred edifice with beautiful side altars, ceiling paintings and stucco work. Education
