Bever (Ems)

Defense of Bever, double mill house Langen

The Bever is an orographic right tributary of the Ems in northern Munster country.

Course

It is caused by the confluence of the 4.3 km long salt creek and the 12 km long Süßbaches east of Castle Harkotten at Füchtorf. The Bever then flows through Füchtorf, and forms with its course the border between North Rhine -Westphalia and Lower Saxony, until they finally reached the monastery Vinnenberg. You now flows along the Bever train, passing the former monastery Rengering by Greven. Between Liitke Westhues and Schulze Osthoff the Bever forms the border between East and West Bevern. The river runs through Westbevern and flows in Long House in the Ems. The Bever operate many water mills up in the 60s. Tributary is the Franconia Brook.

The length of the river estimated to 39.5 km (incl. Süßbach ).

Name history

The river name is probably also awarded the noble Bevern and the places Greven and Westbevern their names. It is believed that he originally from the Low German word for beaver, " Bever " comes from.
