Bever GR

Bever ( [ bevəɾ ]? / I, until 1943 officially called Bevers ) is a municipality in the district of the Upper Engadine, Maloja district of the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

The village of Bever lies at the foot of nearly 3000 m high mountain house Beverser Crasta Mora. Bever to the hamlet of Spina heard in the Val Bever.

The coat of arms shows the patron of the Reformed Church in the Bever exchanged colors of the circle the Upper Engadine.

Languages

Until the mid-19th century spoke the entire population of turkey, a Rhaeto-Romanic dialect. Through the tourism related the proportion of Romansh already went back early. Gifts in 1880 81% of Romansh as their mother tongue, there were still 1910 merely 59%. 1941, the proportion was the last time more than 50 % ( 50.4 %).

After the Second World War, the language change was to the Germans. In the 1990s it came because of strong immigration of German speakers in a dramatic reduction of Romansh. The Beverser local dialect preserves some peculiarity, such as the Engadine otherwise unknown " buma saira " ( instead of " buna saira " = " good evening ").

The Reformation was carried out in 1552.

Origin and nationality

Of the 704 residents (as of mid 2006) about three-quarters were Swiss nationals. The largest proportion of foreigners make the Italians with 68 people, followed by the Germans with 33 people.

Traffic

Bever, the Albula line of the Rhaetian Railway reached the Upper Engadine, which she follows up the valley to St. Moritz. Innabwärts the Engadine line of the Rhaetian Railway runs up to Scuol.
