BG Karlsruhe

BG Karlsruhe is a German basketball club from Karlsruhe.

History

In 1993, the two neighboring clubs FC Südstern ventured 06 Karlsruhe and post Southtown Karlsruhe (PSC ) is a unique sport in the Karlsruhe project. For performance reasons, the concentration merged Basketball departments of these two clubs, and stood in the future as a civil right under the name BG (Basketball Association) Post / Südstern Karlsruhe.

The results of this collaboration were not long in coming, as early as 1995 (only two years after its founding ) the BG Post / Südstern Karlsruhe could celebrate their promotion to the second basketball league. Although followed by two middling seasons, however, but one could establish itself at the top of the second basketball league, the 2000/01 season. Due to their consistent performances, the BG was finally in 2003, to celebrate the national basketball league until now their greatest success, namely the championship of the 2.BBL and hence the rise in the highest German league.

In its first year, the now divested from the master associations and renamed BG Iceline Karlsruhe team could muster a solid performance and missed only due to a defeat on the final day against Bayer Leverkusen Giants the playoffs and reached the 10th place. The following year was similar and you missed again just under the play-offs.

In the following two years followed from the withdrawal of the main sponsor and some personnel changes in the squad a steep downward trend, which eventually culminated in 2007 with the descent into the Pro A.

After the descent we tried now by a solid youth development, and promotion of young talents from the region with play time in the Pro A and in the junior basketball league team founded in 2006, to establish long term with German players in the league.

In July 2008, the new managing director Julie Hüvel succeeds Matthias Dischler, and announced the BG with new concepts in the region to make known and to bring them back on track.

Also succeeded in BG in early September 2008 the most spectacular transfer coup in the Pro A to perform, namely, the former German international Rouven Roessler who has played the last two years at the casting 46ers in the National Basketball League and in the two years respectively of the best German points scorer in the National Basketball League was: 2007 (11.8 PpS ), 2008 (13.6 PpS ) to move to return to Karlsruhe and bind him with a 2- year contract per se. This contract was extended in January 2010 by a player option to the end of the season 2013/2014.

In addition, there are a variety of youth cooperation with other associations: in the 2nd Regional (SSC Karlsruhe), the junior basketball league and youth basketball league (PSC / SSC Karlsruhe), and other associations in which the young talents from the region will be introduced to the Bundesliga.
