Bharrat Jagdeo

Bharrat Jagdeo ( born January 23, 1964 in Lancaster, British Guiana ) was dated August 11, 1999 to December 3, 2011 President of Guyana.

Life

Jagdeo was trained as an economist, including in Moscow ( 1984-1990 ). His political career began in 1980, when he joined the People's Progressive Party (PPP ). In 1995 he was appointed Minister of Finance in 1999 then president. After the surprise resignation of former President Janet Jagan in August 1999 Jagdeo was sworn in as the new head of state.

In the parliamentary elections of August 28, 2006 in Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo 's party, the PPP / Civic coalition received nearly 55 percent of the vote. His party won 36 of the 65 parliamentary seats. He and his party hereby asserted themselves against the main opposition party, the People's National Congress ( PNC), the party of the Creole population. Unlike previous years, the transition to the polls this time was peaceful.

Jagdeo submitted on September 2, 2006 the oath of office to the Constitution from and thus began his second term as President of Guyana.
