Bicknell's Thrush
Bicknelldrossel
The Bicknelldrossel ( Catharus bicknelli ) is a medium-sized songbird of the thrush family. This species was discovered by Eugene Bicknel, an amateur ornithologist, in the late 19th century in the Catskills.
Features
The Bicknelldrossel is at the top olive - brown in color with a slightly reddish tail. The underside is white with gray flanks. The gray-brown breast has darker spots. Other features are the pink legs, the gray cheeks and the gray circles. Previously, the bird was considered together with the slightly larger gray cheeks throttle as a kind.
Occurrence
The Bicknelldrossel breeds in coniferous forests of southeastern Quebec as far as Nova Scotia and into northern New England and moves to winter in the West Indies.
Behavior
The Bicknelldrossel searches on the forest floor for insects, fruits and berries.
