Biebelsheim

Biebelsheim is a municipality in the district of Bad Kreuznach in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Bad Kreuznach.

History

The place was very early an exclave of the county of Falkenstein. First, this ruled by the Lords of Bolanden which were inherited in 1418 by the Counts of Virneburg. Through various owners went the county Falkenstein and with it the village Biebelsheim 1667 to the Duke of Lorraine. Through the marriage of the Duke Francis Stephen of Lorraine with Maria Theresa of Habsburg, Biebelsheim came to Austria and was subordinate to the chief official of the Reich Winnweiler front part of Austria.

Biebelsheim with its surrounding area was mostly occupied by the French in December 1792 and was ceded in the peace treaty of Campo Formio (1797 ), due to its previous Austrian belonging to France, where it remained until 1814. During this time it belonged to the French Département du Mont- Tonnerre with the seat of government in Mainz and formed with a common Ippesheim mayoralty, which existed until 1901.

1814-1816 was a joint Austro- Bavarian government in Kreuznach ( later in Worms), in 1816 the town became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse, since 1946, she is part of the then newly founded state of Rhineland -Palatinate.

The local council in Biebelsheim consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms description reads: "In a split plate above a golden letter B in red, below three red six-pointed star in gold."

The letter B refers to the place name. Gold and red were the colors of the Lords of Bolanden and their successors in possession of the kingdom of County Falkenstein, the Counts of Virneburg and the lords of Daun. The three stars are taken from the Biebelsheimer court seal from the year 1537.

Biebelsheim part of the " wine field Bingen " in the Rheinhessen region. In the village 15 wineries operate, the area under vines is 109 hectares. About 63 % of the cultivated wine are white wine varietals ( 2007). In 1979, 36 companies were still active, the former vineyard was 123 acres.
