Biederthal

Biederthal is a commune with 286 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Altkirch, for Canton Ferrette and is a member of the Association of Municipalities Alsatian Jura.

Geography

The village Biedertal located 15 kilometers southwest of the city center of Basel, between the Swiss municipalities Roder village and castle in Leimental. The community Biederthal is surrounded to the north, east and south of Swiss territory. The Birsig, which rises in the neighboring Wolschwiller flows channeled under the name Exchange ditch north-west past the village center.

History

1141 the place was called in documents Biederdan and was an asset of the Counts of Pfirt. 1324 it passed to the Barons of empire rich stone to the Habsburgs and 1580. They built a castle and a castle estate, who remained in their possession until 1857.
