Bief-des-Maisons

Bief -des- Maisons is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Bief -des- Maisons is located at 930 m above sea level. M., with nearly seven miles east-southeast of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on the vast plateau south of the Val de Sirod, northwest of the chains of the Haute Joux.

The area of ​​5.79 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the plateau of Bief -des- Maisons, the average at 940 m above sea level. M. lies. It has a slight slope towards the north- west to the Val de Sirod. This plateau is mainly consisted of meadow and pasture land. With the exception of the small village of Bach ( Bief ), which seeps back after a short running distance, the plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater infiltrates in the karstic underground. History

Until the construction of their own parish church in the 17th century Bief -des- Maisons belonged to the parish Sirod. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The parish church of Bief -des- Maisons was built in the 17th century and enlarged in the 18th century. On an open field east of the village stands a chapel from the 19th century.

Population

With 77 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Bief -des- Maisons is one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 205 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Bief -des- Maisons was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Nozeroy to Les Planches -en- Montagne. Another road connection with Arsure- Arsurette.
