Biel, Zaragoza

Biel (formerly Biel- Fuencalderas ) is a Spanish municipality in the province of Zaragoza the Aragon Autonomous Region. The comarca of Cinco Villas ( five towns ) belonging place is above the Arba de Biel, one of the headwaters of the Río Arba. The north of the municipal territory is formed by the Sierra de Santo Domingo, the community reaches a height of up to 1,384 m. The municipality includes the town Fuencalderas.

History

In 1998, Peña 14 cave prehistoric settlement remains were referred to at the approximately one kilometer from Biel away, found from the eleventh millennium BC.

The Castle of Biel is the first time in the time of Sancho III. (Navarra ) mentioned in the 11th century. Biel had an important Jewish quarter ( judería ) and towards the end of the Middle Ages was more than half the population of Biel Jewish faith.
