The airfield Biella (Italian: Aeroporto di Biella Cerrione ) is an Italian airfield in the northern Piedmont region. It is located about eight kilometers south of the town of Biella.

Infrastructure and use

The airfield is located at the foot of the Alps, between Turin and Milan, a few kilometers north of the A4 motorway. Due to its location, it is marketed by the airport operator SACE as an alternative to the airports of Turin and Milan. One would like to position itself as a regional airport. So far, the airport serves only general aviation. The airfield has a nearly 1,500 -meter paved runway and landing strip, which runs roughly north-south - direction (16 /34). To the northeast is the apron with hangars and terminal facilities.

History

On May 17, 1962, the Società Aeroporto di Cerrione ( SACE SpA) was established, which began with the construction of the airfield. The inauguration took place on October 26, 1968 by the then Transport Minister Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. The airfield had at the beginning of a 740 -meter-long runway which was brought to its present length in the 1980s. In 1995 there were temporarily scheduled flights between Biella and Rome. 2002 saw the airfield over 18,000 aircraft movements, down the non-commercial traffic in fourth place in Italy.
