Bielsk Podlaski

Bielsko Podlaski is a town in Poland in the same circle of Podlaskie Voivodship, located at the Biała about 50 kilometers south of Białystok.

History

As the place in 1253 for the first time was mentioned in a document, he was already considered old settlement. Presumably it was there at the beginning of the 11th century. In the first half of the 14th century the island was incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1430 he received a city charter. 1495 a city charter was granted under Magdeburg law. Bielsko Podlaski was already an important craft center. 1569, the city became part of Poland, in 1795 it fell to Prussia in 1807 to Russia. The connection to the rail network in 1873 to the track Königsberg -Brest. At that time there were about 7,000 people in the city. On September 23, 1939, the site was occupied by Soviet troops. Later, they were defeated by the Germans and the German occupation lasted until 30 July 1944. Through the renewed invasion of the Red Army of WW2 for Bielsk Podlaski was over. The place was destroyed about 70%. The traditional Jewish community of Bielsko had been completely destroyed during the German occupation.
