Bien Unido, Bohol

Bien Unido is located on the northern coast of the province of Bohol Philippine municipality with 25 796 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ). For the commune also includes the coastal islands Bilangbilangan, Hingotanan, Sagasa, Maomawan and Malingui, as well as the eastern part of Iceland Jao.

Formation

In 1935, two sitios were united in northern Bohol to a new Barangay pursuant to a rule implementing regulation. From this union resulted in the name Bien Unido, which means how well united in Spanish so much. At that time included both the original two sitios and the then newly created Barangay Trinidad to the community. In order to promote a rise in the region both from an economic perspective as well as from social, cultural and political aspects, the residents of Bien Unido barangays targeted at soon to become an independent municipality. However, this suggestion required some patience, because only on 15th December 1980 Bien Unido was finally ( the then Philippine Parliament ) and of President Ferdinand Marcos established as an independent municipality by efforts of the deputies Bartolomeo Cabangbang and Eutiquio Cimafranca by regulation of the Batasang Pambansa. In a referendum, this decision was confirmed on 7 April 1981.

Economy

The main sources of income of the population are fishing, agriculture and weaving mats of dar. In recent times, the harvest of kelp and algae has established itself as an economic mainstay of the region. Seaweed and algae are then further processed both as a food or dietary supplement, used as raw material for the manufacture of soap and toothpaste, but also for plastic products.
