Big Bang (book)

Big Bang: The Origin of the cosmos and the invention of modern science is a book by British author Simon Singh. The original English edition was published in 2004, the German translation appeared in 2005 when Carl Hanser Verlag.

Big Bang covers the development of the Big Bang theory of the universe, by the philosophers of ancient Greece, the distance between Earth and the Sun given for the first time, to the discovery of the cosmic background radiation in the 20th century.

Parallel to the Big Bang theory tells Singh the story of the people who have contributed through hypotheses and experiments to their development, including Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilei, Albert Einstein, Georges Lemaître, Alexander Friedmann, Edwin Hubble, George Gamow, Ralph Alpher, Fred Hoyle, Martin Ryle, Arno Penzias and Robert Woodrow Wilson.

Another theme of the book is the scientific method itself: how serendipity, curiosity, theory and observation work together to enhance our understanding of the world.

The new edition, published in May 2007 ranked in the national accessible literature on the front selling places.
