Big Jim Sullivan

Big Jim Sullivan ( born James George Tomkins; born February 14, 1941 in Uxbridge, London, † October 2, 2012 ) was a British guitarist who was best known as a session musician.

Career

With 14 years of Big Jim Sullivan began to play the guitar. At 17, he played with the " Wildcats " by Marty Wilde, Eddie Cochran accompanied in the spring of 1960 on a UK tour with Gene Vincent had an appearance in the BBC Saturday Club radio show. Sullivan was one of the most sought after studio guitarists. He participated in hundreds of hits of famous stars and groups, including Dave Berry ( with the hit The Crying Game ), Marianne Faithfull ( As Tears Go By ), The Kinks ( You Really Got Me) and Herman 's Hermits (A Kind Of Hush ).

Between 1969 and 1974 he went with Tom Jones on tour. In 1975 and 1976 he recorded three albums with the band "Tiger". From 1978, Sullivan played for nine years at James Last. During this time he also went with Olivia Newton-John on tour. After that Sullivan was mainly interested in film and advertising music until he began playing with Willie Austen in the clubs in the neighborhood. The productive partnership lasted until 1997.

1990-1994 Sullivan had a jazz band called "U.S.", with Derek Austen ( piano ), Malcolm Mortimer (drums) and Herbie Flowers ( bass). 1997 to 1998 was followed by the jazz formation "The three of U.S. ," with Derek Austin ( keyboards) and Malcolm Mortimer (drums).
