Big Joe Duskin

Big Joe Duskin ( born February 10, 1921 Birmingham, Alabama; † 6 May 2007) was an American blues and boogie -woogie pianist.

Life

With seven years of Big Joe began playing the piano. He accompanied the sermons in the church of his father Reverend Perry Duskin. After moving to Cincinnati, Ohio, he heard on the local radio station Fats Waller and Pete Johnson, who became his first major influences. Big Joe played in local clubs. During the Second World War, he continued to play piano with the troops care, where he met his great idols Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis.

After the end of World War II, his father took the promise not to play as long as he was alive. This had an impact on his career bad, because Reverend Perry was 105 years old. Big Joe became a policeman and worked at the post office.

Beginning of the 1970s he began encouraged by the Blue historian Steven C. Tracy, with concert tours throughout Europe and the USA. At this time his first album, which was followed by numerous further developed. 2007 Big Joe Duskin died of complications from diabetes.
