Big Youth

Big Youth (* April 19, 1949, Kingston, Jamaica as of Augustus Manley Buchanan ) is a Jamaican deejay, who achieved prominence mainly in the 1970s.

Life

As one of five children, he left school at age 14 and began to work in different hotels. Through his passion to sing and by the love of music, he was the DJ Lord Tippertone sound system with which he was known in his hometown. Big Youths Music is classified in the genres of reggae and dancehall.

Big Youth is one of the most important representatives of toasting, the resulting Jamaica chant over dub tracks.

His music is supposed to represent the principles of Zion.
