Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area

Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area is a 120 296 acres (487 km ²) large recreation area of ​​national importance around the Bighorn River on the border of the U.S. states of Wyoming and Montana. The area was defined as 1968 National Recreation Area and is managed by the National Park Service.

History

The human history of the area can be traced back at least 12,000 years. In the late 16th century, Absarokee Indians settled here. 1805 Francois Antoine Larocque traveled the dealer possibly the first white man in the area of the Bighorn River.
