Bijacovce

Bijacovce (Slovak in the 19th century " Biacovce "; German praying village or Biatzowitz, Hungarian Szepesmindszent - to 1907 Mindszent ) is a town in eastern Slovakia with 922 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), and is part of the Okres Levoča, a circle of Prešov kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northeast part of the basin Hornádska kotlina in the shadow of northern Levočské mountains, in whose itself is a part of the municipality. Next also the easternmost Branisko is clearly visible. The center is located at an altitude of 562 m nm and is six kilometers from Spišské Podhradie and 20 kilometers from Levoča away.

History

The place Bijacovce was founded in the late 12th century and mentioned in writing for the first time in 1258, when he was assigned to the next after the Mongol invasion 1241/42 German " guests". However, in the 15th century, the village came back to the manor of the nearby Spis Castle and since then has been good gender as Zápolya, Thurzos and Csáky. 1828 are listed in the village of 84 houses and 605 inhabitants. In 1831 it was one of the centers of the so-called East Slovakian peasant revolt.
