Bijela, Herceg Novi

Bijela (Cyrillic Бијела; Italian La Bianca, San Pietro de Albis ) is a coastal town in the municipality of Herceg Novi, Montenegro. It is located north-east of Herceg Novi, on the Bay of Kotor in the vicinity of the Verige channel. The 2011 census showed a population of 3,725.

Bijela is ( Montenegrin: Jadransko Brodogradilište Bijela, Јадранско бродоградилиште Бијела ) since 1927 location of the Bijela Adriatic shipyard, the largest maintenance and repair yard in Montenegro.

Pope Sixtus V. was born into a family that had their roots in the area of Bijela in the 16th Century: How the chronicler Andrija Zmajević noted, the future Pope father Piergentile di Giacomo was born in the village Bjelske Kruševice in Bijela. This later moved as a result of the Ottoman conquests in the Balkans to Italy.

In Bijela exists with the FK Bijela a senior football club that plays in the 2012/13 season in the third Montenegrin Football League ( treca Crnogorska league).
