Bildein (Hungarian: Beled ) is a municipality in the district of Güssing in Burgenland in Austria with 363 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ), of which belong to more than 4% of the Burgenland- Hungarian ethnic group.

Geography

The municipality is located in southern Burgenland.

Community structure

The municipality comprises the two villages (in brackets population as of 31 October 2011):

  • Oberbildein (181)
  • Unterbildein (183 )

The municipality comprises the cadastral Oberbildein and Unterbildein.

History

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name Beled. The name Belyd is already attested in a transfer of ownership letter King Ludwig I to William Ellerbach 1369. After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ).

1971 were pooled and Oberbildein Unterbildein with the community Eberau. While all the other places in Eberau remained to Oberbildein and Unterbildein 1993 separated again from Eberau and formed the new municipality Bildein.

Policy

Mayor Walter Temmel of the ÖVP. He joined the Mayor direct elections in 2012 as the only candidate, and achieved 82.6 % of the vote. At the same time, held municipal elections, the ÖVP could easily increase their share of the vote to 76.2 %. The SPÖ received 23.8 % of votes.

Culture and sights

In Bildein there with the Burgenland (hi) story house a museum which presents the history of Burgenland since 1921.

A 2006 built, free walk- maze is the first stop of the Image Of A borderline experience path.

The parish church of Bildein is of Gothic origin.

Economy and infrastructure

Bildein is primarily agricultural and dominated by viticulture.
