Bilje

The municipality is located in north -east Bilje Croatia. The seat of the municipality is Bilje. The main economic activities are agriculture, tourism, fruit growing, viticulture, etc. The municipality comprises the eight villages: Bilje, Kopačevo, Kozjak, Lug, Podunavlje Tikveš, Vardarac, Zlatna Greda.

Location

The municipality is located in the southwestern part of the Bilje Baranja, in the microregion of the Drava -Danube marshes. Bilje, the seat of the municipality is of Osijek ( the seat of the County of Osijek- Baranja ) short distance ( 7 km). By Bilje the highway D7 and the Gespanschaftstraße Ž4042 and Ž4056 runs.

History

The villages of the municipality of Bilje have emerged on the confluence of the Drava and Danube flood terrain. The flood grounds were already inhabited in prehistoric times, of which abundant archaeological finds attest. Bilje, Kopačevo, Vardarac and Lug were important ways since Roman times, than by the limit on the way from Mursa Maior (Osijek ) to Aquincum ( Budim ) ran. During Josip - way construction (1772 -1777) - the roadway Wall of Osijek association with Bilje - a milestone was found on the railway crossing with the Roman way. During the Turkish occupation Lug was the reform center, where Mihajlo Starin played a significant role. After the victory over the Turks at Senta ( 1667), was Duke Eugen Savojski of the Emperor Leopold I. ( HRR ) almost all the Baranja and thus built in Bilje the hunting lodge, which served for several centuries as the administrative headquarters of Lehnherrschaft.
