Bill Carlisle

William " Bill" Carlisle ( born December 19, 1908 in Wakefield, Kentucky; † 17 March 2003) was an American country musician and singer. He often appeared with his older brother Cliff Carlisle. His nickname was " Jumpin ' Bill".

Life

Childhood and youth

Bill Carlisle grew up in Wakefield. His brother Cliff taught him to play the guitar. During the 1920s he appeared on various vaudeville and tent shows. From 1929 the family had Carlisle at a local radio station in Louisville her own radio show, the Carlisle Family Saturday Night Barn Dance. Impressed by brother Cliffs success in the music scene, even Carlisle music began professionally widmnen.

1934 Cliff helped his brother Bill to a recording contract with ARC Records. There he played one of his first single, Rattlesnake Daddy. In the following years he published more plates like String Bean Mummy, the Jumpin 'and Jenkin ' Blues or Sally Let Your Bangs Hang Down. Meanwhile, he often performed with his brother and with him published plates. But even with his own band, he performed regularly, including in the radio shows Midday Merry- Go-Round and WNOX Tennessee Barn Dance.

Breakthrough

Together with his brother Cliff, he had his first big hit in 1946. Rainbow at Midnight reached a good chart position. Two years later, in 1948, the two another hit with Tramp On The Street were able to record. In the early 1950s he began his successful solo career. In 1953 he first appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, the most successful radio show in America, on. He also continued to publish plates, for example, No Help Wanted, Knothole and Shake -A- able. His title Too Old To Cut The Mustard was later taken up by many successful musicians such as Ernest Tubb and Red Foley, The Maddox Brothers and Rose Maddox and Marlene Dietrich and Rosemary Clooney. He had his last hit in 1965 with What Kinda Deal Is This?.

In the following years he often performed with his son Billy and his daughter Sheila. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2002.

Bill Carlisle died on 17 March 2003.
