Bill Cartwright

James William "Bill" Cartwright ( born July 30, 1957 in Lodi, California ) is a former American professional basketball player for the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls and the Seattle SuperSonics in the NBA. The 2.16 meter tall Cartwright played the position of center and was a member of those Bulls teams that won three NBA titles between 1991 and 1993.

Career

After an impressive college career at the University of San Francisco, where he scored 25 points and 16 rebounds per game, Cartwright was drawn in the 1979 NBA Draft by the Knicks in 3rd place. After his first game year he was appointed to the NBA All- Rookie Team. Cartwright has established itself as a good center who made per game 20 points and 8 rebounds and was elected to the 1980 All- Star team. But then he broke over the years, four times the foot, which plummeted its return gradually to 10 points and 5 rebounds. After the Knicks center -Star Patrick Ewing had committed the injury-prone Cartwright sat more often on the bench.

1988 Cartwright was transferred to the Chicago Bulls superstar Michael Jordan. He reinvented himself as a defensive specialist and held the two basket hunters Jordan and Scottie Pippen back free. Under coach Phil Jackson, the Bulls were from 1991 to 1993 three times NBA champion, every time with Cartwright as a regular player. 1994 Cartwright was transferred to the SuperSonics, where he once played 29 games at the age of 37 and then ended his playing career.

After his playing career, Cartwright worked as an assistant coach, first with the Bulls under Phil Jackson. 2001, he became head coach of the Bulls, but released after weak results in 2003. Cartwright, 2008 was an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns. In 2013 he took over as coach of the Japanese team at Osaka Evessa for the remainder of the season 2012/2013.
