Bill De Arango

Bill De Arango ( born September 20, 1921 in Cleveland ( Ohio), † December 26, 2005 there ), was an American jazz guitarist.

Life and work

De Arango first played in local bands of Dixieland and Chicago jazz. After his military service, he moved in 1944 to New York City where he played with Don Byas and Ben Webster. During this time he also opened the developments of modern jazz and played with Ike Quebec, Red Norvo, Charlie Ventura, Sarah Vaughan and Charlie Parker. In 1946 he was involved in Dizzy Gillespie recording of 52nd Street Theme. In his own band, Terry Gibbs played. In 1948 he went back to his hometown, where he ran a music store and only occasionally occurred. In 1954, he played a disc with pianist John Williams; in the late 1960s he was a member of the band Henry Tree. In 1978 he was involved in a shooting of Barry Altschul, 1982 by Kenny Werner. In 1993 he made ​​a comeback when he released an album with Joe Lovano, Ed and George Schuller. He continued to play in the region and took on more plates before he retired in 1999 due to old age.
