Bill Dickey

William Malcolm "Bill" Dickey (* June 6, 1907 in Bastrop, Louisiana, † November 12, 1993 in Little Rock, Arkansas) was an American baseball player in Major League Baseball.

Biography

Bill Dickey played his entire career with the New York Yankees and is one of the most famous Catcher in the history of Major League. His first game for the Yankees, he played on August 15, 1928 from the season 1929 he was a regular player. Seven World Series titles, eight championships in the American League and eleven vocations as All Star stood at the end of his career to book.

In 1946 he was also the manager of his Yankees. Later he was engaged in the coaching staff of the Yankees, where he then carried back to 1960, the number 33, as Yogi Berra played with his number 8. In 1954 he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. 1972 the Yankees retired the jersey number 8 in honor of Dickey and Berra.

Also two appearances in Hollywood films had Dickey. In the movies the big bang ( with Gary Cooper) and The Stratton Story ( with James Stewart), he played himself in each case
