Bill G. Lowrey

Bill Green Lowrey ( born May 25, 1862 in Kossuth, Alcorn County, Mississippi, † September 2, 1947 in Olive Branch, Mississippi ) was an American politician. Between 1921 and 1929 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Bill Lowrey attended the common schools and the Blue Mountain Academy. Then he studied until 1887 at Mississippi College in Clinton. In the years 1888 and 1889 Lowrey finished his education with studies at Tulane University in New Orleans. As a result, he became active in the teaching profession. From 1889 to 1898 he taught at Blue Mountain College, 1898 to 1911, he led this school. Between 1911 and 1916 Lowrey was president of the Amarillo Military Academy in Amarillo (Texas ). By 1921, he held other senior positions in the teaching profession.

Politically Lowrey was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1920 he was chosen as their candidate in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he Hubert D. Stephens replaced on March 4, 1921. After he was confirmed in each case in the following midterm elections, he was able to complete up to March 3, 1929 a total of four legislative sessions in Congress. In 1928 he applied unsuccessfully to the re- nomination of his party. Between 1929 and 1935 Lowrey was employed by the management of the Federal Court in northern Mississippi. Then he withdrew into retirement.
